Kind of sadden that Prince didn't find me important enough to be a guest in his home and have a listen to his new album (which is coming 'round the 2009 bend). O well, I'll shed the purple glitter tears and get over it because new music from The Purple One is kind of excellente news. Prince thought Los Angeles rock station, Indie 103 were better house guests, he invited them to preview the album in its entirety. Yes, Prince is finished with the 1,000th album he has ever crafted. This means that right now this second it's floating around online...I kid. The album is in fact done but his Purpleness is searching for an independent label to ship it to...oh, like that's going to be hard for him. Still four tracks have made it to the surface that have gotten music journalists/bloggers in a tailspin as the new material is quite enthralling. One such track that has people yapping about is a cover of Tommy James & the Shondells's 1967 hit, "Crimson & Clover". Wow, Prince doing a cover? How rare but really divine...it's quite Hendrix-esque with the breathy vocals and the guitar work is filthy and sexy good. Another song that got some attention is the dark political roll of "Colonized Mind" which has Prince drawling through a talk box (trust me, it's not auto-tune), and you can smell the cigarette smoke in some dank room with this chill track. Ooh, these are some tantalizing tracks and they have gotten me excited for what is in store for next year....oh, why must we wait?!
